Lee talked about a lot of stuff and the take away for me was this. Traditional media is unwilling to move from the model everyone is comfortable with. A better assessment might be traditional media does not know how to monetize the paradigm shift.

When I speak to Radio Program Directors about changing how they think of their medium, I sometimes get the troubling "deer in the headlights" look. Our medium is no longer a push medium but needs desperately to become a "pull" medium. Users pull content they find interesting and consume it on their own schedules. Website development is critical yet many radio station operators are woefully behind not only in figuring out the revenue aspects but also how to invest monies wisely to create a superior product that users will "want" to pull from. Our content must be multimedia and include visuals-it's NOT about just the music anymore...users demand an interactive media experience and we better figure out how we are going to deliver this or face a quick and painful death.

IDEAS?

Yeah, tough isn't it?!

But NOT impossible.

Halloween In Savannah

Ok I had to chuckle at this one. OK let's see. Oh yeah, I've lost 40 pounds of FAT. Not trying to be mean or condescending, it is what it is and I lost it. Hope I never see it again. Did I do it for vanity reasons? Nope. I have Type II Diabetes. I did it because I want to control the disease and not have it control me. It is bad enough that I need to take drugs to help control my Diabetes, however, since I have lost 40 pounds, my blood sugars are under control and nearing "normal". Of course there will never be normal. Diabetes just doesn't go away. It is a chronic disease and there is no cure, but it can be managed and one can learn to co-exist with the disease. Diabetes Type II is nothing to mess with. When it controls you bad things can happen. Loss of limbs, digits, eyesight, kidney trouble, liver problems, congestive heart failure--a whole list of stuff we don't want to think about or deal with.

Here's the skinny (oops). If you are overweight then you are vulnerable. Diabetes Type II is now invading our American adolescent population to alarming proportions. Get proactive and get healthy! Join me in the fight. When my wife Joy worked for a local veterinarian she was brought in by some folks who discovered her in a muddy, wet salt marsh, obviously abandoned and left to survive on her own...I will not comment on the human being who made this decision; suffice it to say that Karma has a way of coming back around--but I digress.

Joy brought her home and frankly I was not ready for another cat. Our last Siamese had recently passed and I was very attached to Simba. I just did not want to put my emotions out there so soon for another little animal. Well, it did not take long for her to win over my heart. She had respiratory problems from being left out in the wet and cold, she had eye infections and other maladies that the vet had treated and was recovering under Joy's watchful eye. She could fit in the palm of my hand she was so little and the first time she curled up on my shoulder to sleep, well....

This was over a year ago. KiKi is healthy and as we are discovering very intelligent. She is also a terror at times. She enjoys looking out the window when the blinds are raised enough for her to gaze and chatter at the birds flitting about the porch area. This morning we were sitting in the dining room and she started crying and chattering at us about the blinds not being up. She would walk up and down the window ledge, look at us, then go over and swat at the cord that raises the blinds and stare us down again...she repeated until we opened the window blinds...what a smart cat, but here is the terror part, she knocked down my workout shorts which were hanging in the bathroom and proceeded to pull out the entire drawstring. Hmmmm?!!! She's probably getting on my computer in the middle of the night and surfing the net...maybe even reading this BLOG!

It's Complicated...Thank You!

It's Complicated with Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin...I laughed out loud; more than once. Go see this movie.

Golden Globe Awards were very predictable. Not sure I agree that Sherlock Holmes was a comedy. I need to start watching Foreign Films again-they seem less pretentious. UP was a nice feel good movie...more UP. Can you imagine if they made a Comedy for 350 million? You would be laughing for a year, maybe longer. It seems we all need to laugh for a good year.

As co-host of Georgia's Wake-Up Call on BIG 98.3 I thoroughly enjoy sharing the ordinary and sometimes extraordinary observations of life. Even if we only have an audience of one (I know my wife listens), my goal is to shine a light, be positive, play a song request and create a smile so you can get through the beginning of each day feeling good. A nation of impoverished people suffering daily and then the largest Earthquake to hit the region in over 200 years. Tons of Aid being showered on Haiti by every government in the world, but no way to distribute to those who need it on the ground...just chaos, fear and a feeling of helplessness. The Red Cross seems to be the best way to donate money by texting the word HAITI to 90999. Ten dollars will be added to your mobile bill and donated to the Red Cross.

Professional Football used to be exciting, especially around playoff time. Somewhere along the line I lost the passion.

Over the weekend I went to the movies at Regal Cinemas and saw "Sherlock Holmes" with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I prefer the old Basil Rathbone portrayals of Sherlock Homes--this one seemed "out of place", but it was enjoyable to watch...the plot was a bit weak though. Next up..."It's Complicated". No matter where I mounted it (outside) around the perimeter of the house, it failed to pick up BIG 98.3. The antennae was hooked up to a TASCAM TU-690 rack mounted Radio Tuner...nothing. It picked up the other five stations in my radio cluster, but only in one location-we never heard 98.3-only static and station overlap. Back to the drawing board and the TERK goes back to the seller. Maybe I'll try a YAGI.

Sometimes Joy sufferes from GERD in the middle of the night which makes it difficult to sleep, if not impossible-unless you are sitting up. I searched high and low for a bed pillow chair that was more substantial and comfortable than what you would find at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I found the Bed Lounge. It reclines, it has a head rest, it has a lumbar pillow it has pockets in the arm rests which are also adjustable--it was perfect. You could easily fall asleep in this thing sitting up and be very comfortable. It came in Regular size and Large size...I bought the regular size and it was too big for Joy's petite frame...so guess what? Pack It Up and send it back!

We're both re-visiting our gift giving.

Maybe we just take the money we would spend and go out to eat...nice bottle of wine, a filet that melts in your mouth....mmmm....who needs Christmas gifts?

2010 Means Pay It Forward

Wow...I have taken an entire TWO years off from writing on this Blog. 2010 will be different, 2010 will be exciting, tangible, meaningful and prosperous! 2010 will bring forth hope and less fear.
